DATA-DRIVEN COFFEE

When you think about data-driven innovation, coffee farms in East Africa might not be the first thing that comes to mind.. Well, think AGAIN!

Since 2017, we have been gathering data to better understand our harvests. Data on yields, coffee quality and – very important – the economic impact on farmers and forests is revolutionizing how we support and empower our farmers. We’re not talking numbers on a spreadsheet; we’re talking about mapping every coffee tree on our farm, tracking yields, and using digital farmer wallets to quickly pay our farmers.

Abel Ketema, our Digitalization and Data Manager at FairChain Foundation, explains:

"The way we’re using technology to improve coffee farming is something I don’t see happening in other places. Farmers are getting fair pay, the supply chain is becoming more transparent, and we’re prepared for the future. If everything goes according to plan, 2025 is going to be an incredible year for coffee!"

Better yields, living incomes, and next-level coffee quality: when data meets purpose, communities thrive.
