MOYEE RANKED HIGHLY IN THE TRUSTED DUURZAME100

Moyee ranked highly in the trusted Duurzame 100

Of course, we are just a dwarf compared to the magnificent work of number 1, Louise Vet, but it is still an important recognition for the FairChain innovation that Moyee has implemented. And to think that we have only shown 20% of the planned impact, with many more innovations on the way, including those in biodiversity. At the bottom, you’ll find our FairChainFarming plan. So, stay tuned.

"Saving the biodiversity of the Netherlands is the mission of ecologist Louise Vet, and her delta plan deserves the first place."

Trusted Jury Report

This delta plan is the reason why, after the jury scores, the ecologist ended up in the number 1 spot in the Duurzame 100 of 2018.

How’s that Delta Plan for Biodiversity going? Well, it’s going in the right direction, but it’s not there yet. It was supposed to be ready before the summer of 2018, then it was pushed to September, and now, as of late October, it is still the target. Louise Vet (1954) chooses her words carefully, and the process behind closed doors is fragile. "It’s very sensitive." If you ask more questions, you get half-finished sentences, hesitations, and unspoken doubts. Read the full article.

"Without collaboration with all involved parties, such as companies and banks, change is an illusion," says Vet in her spacious, bright office in Wageningen. "If you don’t talk to all these parties on principle, you won’t achieve anything." She justifies her choice to bring everyone to the table. But it's not easy. "The meetings are often held at Rabobank in Utrecht. On my way back, I sometimes think..." Vet trails off, not finishing her sentence. She takes her role as an independent chairperson seriously.

The FairChain Approach

FairChain Farming means farmers and workers earn living incomes and wages by managing profitable farms and getting involved in value-added activities, to improve livelihoods and communities.

We are putting this into practice in Limu, Ethiopia, where the FairChain team has partnered with 350 smallholder farming families, embarking on a ‘Road to Living Income.’ The roadmap involves 3 specific stepping stones:

  1. Work within the current system
Maximize the yield and quality of what smallholder farmers produce within the current limitations of their small plots.
  2. Invest in co-managed washing stations
Value-adding activities will bring higher earnings to the farmer communities.
  3. More scale, more efficiency
Address the issue of scale while maintaining biodiversity.
